2Timer Help

Practical guides for humans, with structure that is easy for AI systems to parse.

FlashTiming, Eagle Eye, and Other Lynx Timing Systems

FlashTiming (FT-FAT, with or without the FT-ID camera) and Eagle Eye photo-finish cameras use the same Lynx files as FinishLynx: they read a lynx.evt start list and save results as .lif files. Choose FlashTiming or Eagle Eye as the meet’s timing system, in track and field and cross country meets. Any other timing system that reads lynx.evt and writes .lif files works through FinishLynx.

Does 2Timer work with FlashTiming or Eagle Eye?

Yes. FlashTiming and Eagle Eye are in 2Timer’s timing list under their own names. Each one writes the start-list files your camera software reads and imports the .lif result files it saves, the same files FinishLynx uses. Everything else works as it does with FinishLynx: how results are matched to entries, results held for review, hip numbers, and combined races (see FinishLynx for Track and Field).

Set up FlashTiming or Eagle Eye in a new meet

  1. On the new-meet wizard’s Systems step, under How will you time this meet?, choose FlashTiming or Eagle Eye. If it isn’t shown, open Another timing system.
  2. The first time, choose the shared folder: the folder your camera software reads its start list from and saves results to. 2Timer remembers it on this device, separately for each system.
  3. After the meet is created, start the connection on Connections. At the first start the browser asks to allow the folder again.

2Timer writes the meet’s files into a subfolder of the shared folder, by default named after the meet; the connection’s Meet subfolder shows which. Point your camera software at that subfolder, not the shared folder above it.

A meet that already exists gets one from Connections: under Timing, press Add a timing system and choose FlashTiming or Eagle Eye. For a cross country meet at the Basic experience level, they aren’t in the list until one is among your systems. Switch to Standard in Settings → Preferences → Experience Level, or add it in Settings → Systems first.

A FinishLynx connection that’s really FlashTiming or Eagle Eye

If you set up FinishLynx for your FlashTiming or Eagle Eye camera before they were listed, open the connection with Edit and change System to FlashTiming or Eagle Eye. The connection is then called by that name. Its folder, the files it writes, and results already imported don’t change.

Which Lynx files FlashTiming and Eagle Eye need

A new FlashTiming or Eagle Eye connection writes only the files that camera reads. Files to generate on the connection shows them and can turn the others on:

  • FlashTiming writes Entries (EVT) for FT-FAT’s event list and heats, Athletes (PPL) so FT-FAT can look athletes up by number, and Schedule (SCH).
  • Eagle Eye writes Entries (EVT), which Eagle Eye imports.

Neither uses Teams (AFL). Under Watch for files, Track results (LIF) is ticked so 2Timer imports the results they save. Field results (LFF) come only from FieldLynx.

FlashTiming FT-FAT: read 2Timer’s start list and send results back

In FT-FAT, open the main menu and choose Configure Meet. On the Scoring Folder tab, press Browse, go to the meet’s folder from 2Timer, and select the lynx.evt file. The event list appears once the folder is chosen. If FT-FAT runs on another computer, the folder must be shared on the network so both computers can read and write it. If you aren’t sure which Scoring Option to choose, ask FlashTiming support which one saves .lif files.

After each race, Save Times or Save & Close saves the result file in that folder, and 2Timer imports it while the FlashTiming connection is running.

For cross country and other races without lanes, FT-FAT’s Place by Times records each finisher’s time; its NameID mode finds runners by number from lynx.ppl, which is why Athletes (PPL) should stay on. The FT-ID camera helps identify finishers inside FT-FAT and doesn’t change the files 2Timer reads.

Eagle Eye: import the start list and save results

In Eagle Eye, import the lynx.evt file from the meet’s folder with Import on the Results tab. After each race, Save Time writes the .lif result file.

If the camera computer and the 2Timer computer share a network folder, 2Timer imports each .lif as it’s saved. If you carry files on a USB stick instead, copy lynx.evt to the camera computer, and bring each .lif back and load it from the meet’s Import… page: Lynx results, then Track (.lif) (Standard level). The Review step shows what will change before you press Import.

Results from FlashTiming or Eagle Eye aren’t showing up

  • The FlashTiming or Eagle Eye connection is started on Connections, with Import files on and Track results (LIF) ticked under Watch for files.
  • The camera saves results into the meet’s subfolder, the same one that holds lynx.evt.
  • The event numbers in the camera match 2Timer’s. They do when the camera’s event list came from 2Timer’s lynx.evt.
  • A result that can’t be matched safely is held, not applied: on Entries, the Import Review box says how many are waiting. See FinishLynx for Track and Field.

Other timing systems that use Lynx files

A timing system with no mention here works with 2Timer the same way if it reads a lynx.evt start list and saves .lif results: set up FinishLynx, point the system at the meet’s folder, and turn on the files it reads under Files to generate.
